If you are a public safety administrator or public official in the State of Iowa and you are not familiar with Section 80F, you will want to read this blog post!

Edgar Public Safety and Healthcare Solutions, LLC has launched a new team of investigators to conduct 80F investigations in Iowa. 80F is a code section that dictates the process that must be followed during a complaint investigation to make sure the rights of peace officers, public safety officers, and emergency personnel are followed. This code section covers certified law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, corrections officers, detention officers, jailors, probation and parole officers, communications officers, and any other law enforcement officer certified by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and employed by a municipality, county, or state agency.

80F's purpose is to allow a standardized process for investigations and to provide a bill of rights to the personnel listed above. In addition to outlining the process that must be followed when a complaint is received, it also outlines rights related to political activity, release of photographs, etc. I have performed several of these types of investigations throughout my career and they are difficult and quite honestly stressful to everyone involved. It is important that the employee understands that the formality and process may seem very intimidating, but ultimately it protects them and ensures a consistent process for a timely resolution to a complaint. It is required that organizations follow these rules when they perform these types of actions.
Edgar Solutions has put together a team of investigators to help agencies that may rarely perform this type of investigation. Our company is a licensed private investigation agency through the Iowa Department of Public Safety and consists of former state and local law enforcement and emergency service personnel who have conducted these types of investigations within their previous agencies.
